1. Please introduce yourself to the audience! Who are you, what do you have to do with HC and what are you doing in your normal live[s]?
Ingi: I´m Ingi, I´m 22 and the guitar player. I AM hardcore. I just quit my job recently and went back to school. I have a girlfriend and a daughter. I´m a lucky man.
Birkir: Im an ok dude. I spend way too much time on hc/punk related things, Ive got my hands pretty much in everything that has to do with this shit. I work with teenagers in a youth club. I dont have a girlfriend. But I have 3 cats and some friends though…
2. No Pasaran says the title of your MiniLP. No Pasaran to what?
Birkir: To pretty much everything. People are going insane and we are no exeption.
3. You know I like your recordings a lot, but I remember, that it tooks a long time for me to discover Hardcore. How did you came to HC?
Ingi: I started listening to rock and heavy metal when I was about 9 or 10.
I didn´t check out any hardcore band until years later. When the "Hardcore scene" started here I started listening to the hardcore bands that were heavy enough, alot of the NY Hardcore bands at first. Then after going to alot of hardcore/punk shows and meeting alot of cool people I quikly began to listen to so many types of hardcore and punk. The music and whole meaning behind it related alot more to me than my heavy metal heros did before. I love being a part of hardcorepunk . I couldn´t imagine life without it.
Birkir: As my father is deeply into music I had to get into it too. Ive been listening to music since I can remember. My family is very musical. I was tought to dig deep into the music. Im glad you like our record. Your gonna like the new one even more. I had known about hc when I was like 13 but never got educated about it. It wasnt until I saw Sick Of It All in 95 when I had a first had experience with it and got really curious. After that I got heavily involved and went to Germany for one year to get even more involved.
4. One of your songs is called Unispired Youth. Be sure, that I red the lyrics and the linernotes, but can you nevertheless explain, what you think is an Unspired Youth and how we could work against it outside of our small scene?
Birkir: It was a reaction to my experience with a lot of teenagers at work. They just seemed very uninspired and could even express to me what they are passionate about or even what they could foresee being into… It was kinda disheartening and this happens so often that I kinda got desperate feeling really sad about this evolution. Im glad you dug into the lyrics.
5. Some other of your songs are about Disarmement and Police. I ever thought Iceland is a peaceful country?
Ingi: We have Police Bastards here as well!
Birkir: We have violent pigs here as well as a pro-war government. Theres nowhere to hide. Even in a spoiled society like ours.
6. When I go to a HC concert I love the energy of the bands, especially when it is not just show, but when I feel the bandmembers are doing it for themself. Can you explain, how you experience a show?
Ingi: I agree with you. Alot of people tell me that we have that energy on stage. Im glad that people think that, cause we try to do our best everytime. We want to be better than the other bands on the show, for sure. Im playing for the fun of it, but I do take our music seriously and try to play well each time.
Birkir: Its sad but true but sometimes shows are be all end all for me so I try to get the most out of it. I hold on to this wich is kinda strange sometimes. This is my time off from everything.
7. Iceland seems to have a rich Punk and Independent music culture. What can you tell us about the origins of HC in Iceland and how is it today?
Ingi: We were the first hardcore band in Iceland, but the "Hardcore scene" had been going on for years before with mostly basic metal or metalcore bands in it. Hardcore is still going stong here. So many foreign HC band have played here and are still comming.
Birkir: As of now its very rich, more than ever with quality bands like Gavin Portland, Fighting Shit, The Death Metal Super Squad, Kimono and more. Well try to make links for all those bands on our sites. Anyway…. There was a punk scene in the 80s but very short lived. Its too detailed to get into here. But the scene of now is way more active and costantly taking new shapes. Its kinda uphill now with a lot of people not coming to shows anymore, but I like it.
8. Your tape is distributed via a Polish label, your MiniLP is made by the Czech Malarie label. How did you get these contacts and why are you more present in Eastern Europe, then in Western Europe?
Birkir: Its just as much coincidental as anything else. Really. I know the In Our Hands people saw us play in Belgium in 2002 I think and where interesed. As they are wonderful people we natuarlly said yes. As with Malarie, I dont remember how that happened. Maybe through the Harum Scarum people or Tragedy, I dont remember.
9. O.K. last question: How was the last tour (*I didnt know if you did one, but every HC-band does a tour, HaHa...), what was the best, what the worst gig?
Ingi: Last tour was great, but too short. It´s been more than a year!! Worst gig was in Whales, couse our bass player was drunk as fuck. Best one....propably Boston or Leeds. Boston UK is always good!
Birkir: Last UK tour was crazy fun. The shows where bigger than before and we met more people and got into troubles and adventures. The Reading show was pretty wild. I was amazed of the reaction. People had travelled for that show. We also threw confetti and all kinds of crap over our boys in Drive Us Against who toured with us.
